Five Days is a dating experiment run by Kai Douglass and Ruby Lau. We're the "controller" responsible for how the information you share with Five Days is used.

What we collect

When you sign up, we may collect information such as your name, age confirmation, contact details, city, Instagram handle or verification photo, dating preferences, answers to matching questions, availability and feedback.

Some of your dating preferences may reveal sensitive information, including your sexual orientation.

What we use it for

We use your information to:

• verify that participants are real
• understand who you might be compatible with
• find potential matches
• contact you and arrange dates
• run and improve the Five Days experiment
• deal with safety or misuse
• tell you about future Five Days experiments, launches and updates, but only if you've opted in to hear about them

Our legal bases

• Contract, or steps to enter one: for verifying you, understanding who you might be compatible with, finding potential matches, and contacting you to arrange dates. This is the information needed to provide the matchmaking experience you sign up for. You don't have to give it to us, but we won't be able to match you without it.
• Explicit consent: for using any answer that reveals sensitive information, such as sexual orientation, to find and arrange matches. You give this consent separately when you RSVP, and can withdraw it at any time (see below).
• Consent: for sending you optional updates about future Five Days experiments, launches and updates, only if you've ticked that box. You can withdraw this at any time.
• Legitimate interests: for keeping the experiment safe, preventing misuse, and improving how Five Days works, balanced against your right to privacy.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information.

Our website is hosted on Vercel, and we may use other service providers ("processors") to help us store information, communicate with participants or process payments.

We may also share limited information with your potential match where needed to arrange your date.

International transfers

Some of these providers may process information outside the UK or EEA. Where data-protection law requires it, we use appropriate safeguards, such as the UK and EU Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.

How long we keep it

Verification photos are deleted after verification and no later than 7 days after they are submitted.

Matchmaking information is deleted or anonymised within 3 months after the relevant Five Days cohort, unless we need to keep limited information longer for legal or safety reasons.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:

• give you access to the personal information we hold about you
• correct it if it's wrong
• delete it
• restrict or object to how we use it
• give you a copy in a portable format
• withdraw your consent at any time, as described below

Withdrawing your consent

You can withdraw your consent to any of the above at any time by emailing datein5days@gmail.com. Withdrawing doesn't affect anything we did with your information before you withdrew it, and doesn't affect anything we do based on a different legal basis, such as arranging a date you've already agreed to.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, we'd like the chance to put it right first: email datein5days@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In the UK, that's the Information Commissioner's Office.
